Hi! 🙋🏼‍♀️ I thought I’d reintroduce myself and explain a little bit about our weaning journey. 🙂

I’m Natalie, a North London based mum to a little boy named Luca. We started weaning at 5 months which was a personal choice as we felt Luca was ready at this point. Luca was sitting up, he had a strong neck hold and he showed great interest in food.

Initally, we chose to go down the purée route as the thought of baby led weaning petrified me. I must admit, I found the whole process a little daunting to begin with; what should I be feeding Luca? How often should I be offering solids? and I thought, as a lot of mums do, the only way was purées.

However, after about 6 weeks, my confidence grew and so did Luca’s so I slowly began to introduce the BLW approach, starting with very soft vegetables such as steamed broccoli and carrots then gradually moving on from there. Luckily, Luca took to feeding himself like a dream, he also really enjoys his food and is super unfussy when it comes to trying new flavours.

Baby led weaning is a fantastic fit for Luca but I don’t believe it’s the only way. In my opinion, spoon-feeding or even a combination of baby led weaning and purées can equally provide a healthy start, but I think it’s about understanding how to your baby’s lead as well as trusting your own instincts. ☺️

On the other side, I was all for BLW and didn’t want to do purees or spoon feeding at all, bit my babyhas always been a bit of a lazy feeder, he’s too busy to stop for eating, has to be active all the time 😂 so actually showed no interest in good via BLW but are anything offered on a spoon 🙄 8 and a half months old now and this week he has finally grabbed food and fed himself for the first time (after many attempts / offerings to tempt him)… I was all for BLW but the reality is really that babies tell us how it’s going to be 😂
